Jerusalem Lutheran Church belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran in America. There are about 60 million Lutheran's worldwide and 9 million Lutherans in the US.
We believe that we are saved by grace when God grants righteousness through faith alone. Good works inevitably result, but they are not the basis of salvation.
Not only are Lutherans the oldest protestant denomination, begun in 1517 when Martin Luther challenged the teaching of his times and organized by the Augsburg Confession of 1530, but Jerusalem Lutheran at Ebenezer first brought the light of the gospel to Effingham County in 1734 as a group of Salzburger Lutherans founded a settlement on a bluff of the Savannah River.
Our church is BIBLICAL. At every worship service we read out loud from the Bible and use scripture in all of our liturgy because the Word of God is central to who we are as Christians.
Our church is TRADITIONAL. We have a strong heritage to celebrate and to pass on to the next generation. We respect our history and built on the strong faith of our fathers and mothers.
Our church is LITURGICAL. Our worship service of Biblical readings and hymns and preaching embraces the shape of worship services that has come to us through the centuries.
Our church is SACRAMENTAL. We celebrate two sacraments in our church. Baptism for any age person, and the Lord's Supper of bread and wine. These two sacraments are the means of grace by which we receive God's love and forgiveness and are strengthened for our discipleship in Christ Jesus.
Grace to you and Peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
The pastor and congregation of Jerusalem Lutheran Church welcome you to visit Ebenezer. Our church building is the oldest public building in the state of Georgia and we a good share of the history of Georgia is centered around Ebenezer. We are always glad to share our past with visitors.
However, this congregation is so much more than history. This is a living, working, serving community of faith in Jesus Christ. Our congregation is a mix of direct descendants of the first Salzburgers and folks how have moved into our area. We have life long Lutherans and we have those who have recently found a home at Jerusalem and the Lutheran faith.
We do not have fancy video equipment or electric instruments and music from a machine, or power point sermons about 10 steps to finding happiness, and our pews are not that comfortable. And yet this congregation, spanning the centuries, still calls the faithful to worship with the ancient bells in our steeple and confesses our sins and our Christian beliefs using the ancient creeds of the church and sings the great hymns of the church and hears the gospel preached
We would welcome you to come and worship with us any Sunday at 11:00.
Christ's peace be with you
