Grace to you and Peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN
The congregation and pastor of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church welcome you to visit Ebenezer and worship with us every Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m.
This is a church with a history that stretches back to 1733 when the congregation was established in Augsburg, Germany at St. Anna's Lutheran Church. The Salzburgers came to this country in the early days of the colony of Georgia for religious freedom. The church in which we worship has seen occupation by British soldiers, Union troops marching through Ebenezer on the way to Savannah, and visits by most of the prominent statesmen of the colonial times. Our congregation is a mix of direct descendants of those first Salzburgers and folks who have moved into our area. We have life long Lutherans in our congregation and those who have recently found a church home at Jerusalem and in the Lutheran faith.
Every week we expect visitors who come because it is an historical building and because much early Georgia history is connected to this place. But we are not a museum for the past. This is a vibrant and healthy congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We have a long history of traditional, liturgical, biblical worship at Jerusalem.
The faith community at Ebenezer has learned during the centuries to change the things that needed to change to adapt to our society. (Yes, we do have air conditioning and don't worship in the German language anymore!) But, the leaders in this congregation have also realized that there are some things that do not change and to those things they hold fast. Spanning the centuries, our worship still calls the faithful to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, confess the ancient creeds of the church and sing the great hymns of faith.
We would welcome you to come and bless us with a visit.
